Introduction

Ann is a shareholder with Fredrikson & Byron, where she has practiced since 1986. Ann assists clients as they develop, acquire, commercialize, and market intellectual property assets. Ann represents both public and private clients in a variety of technology industries, with a special emphasis on clients in the life sciences and information technology industries.

Ann has helped clients develop and acquire technology rights through a variety of transactions, including joint ventures, strategic alliances, collaboration and research agreements, development agreements, and technology and patent licenses. She has helped clients commercialize their technology through manufacturing, supply, and distribution arrangements, as well as licenses and reseller and OEM arrangements with other commercial partners.

Ann also has provided advice to clients who need to navigate the complex laws and regulations governing online and off line marketing and sales directly to consumers, including marketing and sales in regulated industries such as health care. Her background in these areas allows her to routinely provide advise to clients on how to avoid the traps and pitfalls in direct to consumer sales and marketing, including privacy and security issues, truth in advertising, pci regulations, “CANSpam”, and other consumer fraud and protection laws and regulations.

Ann’s understanding of the information technology industry also allows her to assist clients negotiate business technology licenses and outsourcing agreements, including hosting agreements, software licenses, and ERP system development and implementation agreements. She has represented clients negotiating business arrangements with many of the largest business technology providers, including IBM, AT&T, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, and JDEdwards.

Ann currently serves on the firm’s Board of Directors and is a member of its Executive Committee. She is a frequent speaker on technology issues. Ann is also active in several local community organizations, with an emphasis on the outdoors and the environment, and has helped lead the firm’s “Aim to Sustain” efforts to be a “greener” law firm.
