The 2012 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute – May 21 & 22, 2012
Fredrikson & Byron is pleased to announce that attorneys Robert Boisvert, Mary Krakow, Anne Radolinski, Richard Ross, and Karen Schanfield will host presentations on a variety of topics at the 2012 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute. Our attorneys will educate attendees on subjects ranging from minimizing disputes surrounding religious discrimination in the workplace, to rules and requirements for providing paid and unpaid breaks for employees. Other topics covered will be social media use in the workplace, expatriate employment agreements, discipline and discharge of employees, independent contracting, and ADA case studies. Mary Krakow will also explore case studies regarding the classification of employees in a follow-up webcast “Exempt or Non-Exempt? Classify your Workers Correctly,” on June 19, 2012.

Lousene Hoppe will moderate a panel of experts, including Richard Kyle, Jr. The panel will discuss challenges in responding to search warrants, subpoenas, civil investigative demands, and other pre-indictment and pre-litigation government information requests.
International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo – June 4-7, 2012
International biofuels attorney, and chair of Fredrikson & Byron’s International Law Group, Richard Weiner, will moderate a discussion that will explore the challenges that demonstration scale facilities face in the international market while examining cases with experience in demonstration scale production science. This discussion, “Commercialization Updates: Investigating International Demonstration Facilities and their New Push for Scale-Up,” will take place at the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo on June 5, 2012.
Todd Taylor, an attorney in Fredrikson & Byron’s Energy Group, will moderate on June 6, 2012, for the panel “Aligning Management, the Board of Directors and Strategic Planning to Maximize Every Stakeholder’s Return on Investment.” This panel will discuss how a good board operates, and how to create a management team to carry out established goals and policies.

Fredrikson & Byron shareholder in the Employment & Labor Law Group, Karen Schanfield, will serve as a panelist at the annual meeting of the National Academy of Arbitrators. The presentation, “What’s up Doc? Medical Conundrums in Arbitration,” will take place on June 8, 2012. Shareholder in the Health Law and Health Care Fraud & Compliance Groups, Briar Andresen, will present during the Invited Papers Session. She will share her writing, “Labor Arbitration and HIPAA,” on June 7, 2012.
