Day at the Capitol: Connecting with Elected Officials
It is important to connect with legislators.
One of the best ways to work on building support for change at the Capitol is to let elected officials know that the support behind the issue is being driven by constituents in their communities. Organizations large and small, self-advocates, volunteers, businesses, and citizens of all types use grassroots strategies to build visibility for the issues they care about, build confidence in their movement and to strengthen their advocacy outreach.
Many of our clients are implementing these strategies by planning a Day at the Capitol, where they will rally as a group and then meet one-on-one with their respective elected officials.
You don’t have to be part of a Day at the Capitol to have your voice heard; you can plan a visit with your legislators to discuss issues that matter to you. If you are interested in contacting your legislators but do not know which Legislative District you live in, you may use the following District Finder website – www.gis.leg.mn/mapserver/districts/index.html – or call the House Public Information Services Office at 651.296.2146.
