Introduction

Eric has practiced law at Fredrikson & Byron since 1977, and is a member and past chair of the Real Estate Group. His practice focuses on real estate, real estate finance, and general corporate law. He regularly represents clients in land acquisition, development, leasing, and financing projects in Minnesota and throughout the nation and in managing regulatory and environmental risks in connection with those projects.

Eric has extensive experience in all types of real estate finance, and regularly represents both borrowers and lenders in connection with conventional, securitized, tax-exempt, and government-assisted financing projects. He has represented local, regional, national, and international lending institutions and regularly acts as Minnesota and Wisconsin local counsel in connection with money-center financing transactions. He represents both lenders and borrowers in connection with workouts of troubled real estate projects.

Eric assists his clients with all phases of real estate development projects, including land acquisition and due diligence investigations, securing entitlements, interim and permanent financing, construction, leasing, and sales. He regularly represents clients in leasing transactions with national retail companies, and has negotiated leases with AT&T, Chico’s, Gap, Nature Company, FAO Schwartz, Ann Taylor, and other typical regional mall tenants.

Eric is a Real Property Law Specialist, certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association. He has contributed extensively to continuing education programs and publications on real estate, lending, and related topics.
