Featuring: Karen Gallmeier, President, Gallmeier Consulting - Karen has a Master of Arts in Organizational Management and is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Prior to building a company devoted to helping organizations and their human resources improve results through training, coaching, and organizational consulting Karen worked for State Farm, 3M, and TCF where she analyzed the needs of the organizations and developed and implemented successful strategies for change management, team development, talent management, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness. Karen is a certified DISC® facilitator, a certified Meyers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) facilitator, and a certified PDI 360 Feedback Facilitator.

Session Overview: The DISC® model is a simple tool that has been helping people to connect better for over thirty years. Participants will complete an online assessment in advance of the program, will discover their DISC® style, and learn about how they affect their workplace relationships and priorities. The session will focus on:

  • Understanding Your DISC® Style
  • Understanding Other DISC® Styles
  • Building More Effective Relationships

Note: Each participant will receive an access code and link to go online and complete their individual DISC® profile. The assessment takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete (you will be given good time to complete the profile). The access code will be sent approximately two weeks prior to the classroom session and will be sent with instructions for completion.

He provides clients with wealth planning services including conducting investment portfolio analysis and reviews, implementing individual executive financial plans, and providing retirement planning education for the employees of corporate clients. Steve received his Masters of Science in Finance from DePaul University and has an undergraduate degree from Saint Cloud State University with a concentration in Finance and Economics. Steve has worked with Fredrikson’s Pension & Profit Sharing Committee since 2009 and works with corporate plan sponsors within the Financial Concepts retirement division as a relationship manager to perform fiduciary investment reviews and provide employee education and consultations.

June 20, 2012: Law & Literature: Ethics


Featuring: Judge Timothy Baland. Judge Baland has facilitated dozens of Literature for Lifelong Learning programs. He has done programs for judges in 3 states as well as programs for lawyers, doctors, architects, corrections personnel, court administrators and other groups. His Literature for Lifelong Learning programs involve a discussion by participants of professional practice and professional responsibility issues with an emphasis on the moral and ethical choices and difficult decisions which individuals must make in their professional lives. Baland who retired after twenty-two years of service as a District Court Judge in Minnesota, is currently serving as an International Judge for the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.

Session Overview: Judge Baland will present a 3-hour class that will involve literature-based discussions. Attendees will be required to read a short book and a short story in advance of the session. Copies of the stories will be sent to you approximately two weeks before the class. Please be sure to read both stories prior to the session. The discussion at the session will endeavor to provide participants with an enhanced understanding and appreciation of their responsibilities as attorneys when it comes to ethics and professional responsibilities. In addition, the program will involve a facilitated discussion and thoughtful exploration by participants on a number of topics which bear on the attorney speech, advice and behavior

June 20, 2012: Law & Literature: Elimination of Bias


Featuring: Judge Timothy Baland

Session Overview: Judge Baland will present a 2-hour class that will involve literature-based discussions. Attendees will be required to read at least three stories in advance of the presentation. The discussion during the program will endeavor to provide participants with an enhanced understanding and appreciation of their responsibilities as attorneys when it comes to racial fairness, deciding responsibilities, etc. In addition, the program will involve a facilitated discussion and thoughtful exploration by participants on a number of topics which bear on the racial sensitivity of attorney speech, advice and behavior.
