Nancy took a quilting class more than 15 years ago and has been hooked ever since. She enjoys seeing what creative works she can produce with different pattern and fabric choices. Nancy said quilting is relaxing and she takes pleasure in seeing the end result. She also noted that it’s been a good way to meet new people and establish new friendships.
Nancy carries over a keen attention to detail from quilting to work. She has also learned to be patient when mistakes are made.
Jeannine took up quilting under the influence of her mother's clothing construction and design. Jeannine remembers her mother's hands working on several items of clothing while she was growing up in Minnesota. Her mother was also a costumer and showed Jeannine the “fancy” side to textiles. Jeannine enjoys its relaxing nature and has given her an eye for design. She takes pride in her quilting and continues this creative outlet because it’s in her blood and brings her a sense of self.
Boyd has been quilting for many years and has taken high-level classes to enhance his quilting craft. Several years ago, Boyd learned knitting. Boyd enjoys knitting because he’s able to make each project his own. Boyd dives into each project whole heartedly and is able to tune out the rest of the world – even losing track of time. “You’re the boss of your knitting and you have two choices, either let something get the best of you or master it.”
Knitting has brought many character traits to Boyd that have translated into his work. It’s taught him persistence and refined his attention to detail skills. He also has a drive to fix any and all errors and has a strong desire to understand how things work. Boyd’s learned to keep forging ahead when issues arise and is not satisfied with something being satisfactory – he wants it to work right and how it’s supposed to.
