Fredrikson & Byron Announces New Shareholders
Minneapolis, MN September 26, 2008 – – Fredrikson & Byron has elected ten new shareholders: Lawrence Bender (Energy and Renewable Energy); Kevin Goodno (Government Relations); Peter Hatinen (Trusts & Estates and Trusts & Estates Litigation); Loan Huynh (Immigration); Jim Mayer (Litigation and Intellectual Property Litigation); Ryan Murphy (Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Workouts, and Litigation); Dana Neu (Trusts & Estates and Trusts & Estates Litigation); Rachna Sullivan (Litigation), Todd Taylor (Renewable Energy, Securities, Corporate Governance, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity & Venture Capital); and Lindsay Zamzow (Employment & Labor, Litigation, and Shareholder Litigation).
Lawrence Bender – Lawrence grew up in Streeter, N.D. and is a graduate of North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. and the University of North Dakota School of Law in Grand Forks, N.D.. Lawrence is an officer and shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Energy Group and heads the firm’s North Dakota office in Bismarck, N.D.. His areas of expertise are in oil and gas law, public utility law, and other regulatory matters. Lawrence has represented oil and gas exploration companies, drilling companies, oil field service companies, pipeline companies, and other businesses in state and federal litigation and contested proceedings before various state and federal agencies. He represents and advises a wide variety of natural resources and energy related companies regarding contractual matters and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Kevin Goodno – Kevin is a shareholder and Chair of Fredrikson’s Government Relations practice. His focus is to provide a comprehensive range of services to clients, including legislative drafting and tracking, policy development, governmental lobbying at all levels, and strategy creation regarding governmental relations. He also has extensive experience in state and local government with particular focus on health care and tax policy. Kevin was appointed commissioner of the Department of Human Services by Governor Tim Pawlenty and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for 12 years.
Peter Hatinen – Peter is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Trusts & Estates Group. Peter joined in 2003, after practicing estate planning for three years at Goulston & Storrs, P.C., in Boston, Massachusetts. He assists clients with the preparation of wills, trusts, and related documents. Peter also advises clients on a range of estate planning issues, such as trust and estate administration, tax planning, and charitable gift planning, including establishing and administering private grant making foundations and public charities.
Loan Huynh – Loan Huynh is an officer and shareholder in the Immigration Group at Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. Loan has been an immigration lawyer since 1995 and practices exclusively in immigration and nationality law focusing on employment and family-based immigration, PERM labor certification applications, I-9 compliance and audits, non-immigrant visas, and naturalization. She has extensive experience in assisting multinational corporations with their U.S. and global immigration needs and assisting employers with immigration-related compliance files and worksite enforcement issues.
Jim Mayer – Jim is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Commercial Litigation Group, with an emphasis in intellectual property litigation. He represents individuals and businesses in copyright, trademark, and patent disputes, and in a variety of other commercial cases. Jim has experience trying cases in state and federal courts, as well as handling appeals and arbitration hearings.
Ryan Murphy – Ryan Murphy is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron P.A.’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Workouts and Litigation groups. Ryan practices principally in the area of business financial reorganization, including out-of-court workouts, chapter 11 bankruptcy, receiverships, creditors’ remedies, and related commercial litigation such as fraudulent transfers. He also represents debtors and creditors in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases, and works with banks and other financial institutions on UCC issues. Ryan’s skills range from advising businesses and individuals during complex restructurings to litigating intricate business disputes.
Dana Neu – Dana is a shareholder in the Trusts & Estates and Trusts & Estates Litigation groups at Fredrikson & Byron. Her practice focuses on tax and estate planning for individuals and families. Dana’s practice also involves business succession planning, charitable giving, estate administration, tax controversies, and trust litigation.
Rachna Sullivan – Rachna Sullivan is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Litigation Group. She focuses her practice in the area of business litigation. Rachna represents both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving contracts, shareholder rights, and other general business disputes.
Todd Taylor – Todd is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Renewable Energy Group. He focuses his practice in renewable energy. Todd works closely with his clients on a variety of legal and business needs, including public and private financing options, entity formation and seed capital, critical contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, governance matters, and compliance with corporate and securities laws. Todd focuses much of his time on biofuels and biomass development projects, including second generation feedstock and process technologies.
Lindsay Zamzow – Lindsay is a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Employment and Labor Law Group. Lindsay represents a wide range and size of corporations, both public and private. Her practice addresses the numerous employment issues raised in sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination (gender, disability, age and race), retaliation, wage and hour, and non-compete/ employment contract cases. Lindsay also has extensive experience in collective/class action litigation involving state wage and hour laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
