Fredrikson & Byron to Host Third Annual Midwest Wind Development Conference

Conference to focus on financial aspects of wind projects

Minneapolis, MN January 26, 2010 – – Fredrikson & Byron will host the third annual Midwest Wind Development Conference Monday, February 22, 2010 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The full-day conference will provide attendees with tools to learn how to develop and capture the financial benefits of a community-based wind project, including gaining access to federal and state incentives.

The conference will cover trends in the wind industry, obtaining a wind site that is attractive to investors, current permitting and environmental challenges faced by site developers, navigating the interconnection and transmission regulatory systems, negotiating wind power purchase agreements, using state and federal incentives to finance projects, and developing and financing issues from landowner, developer and utility perspectives.

The conference will appeal to wind industry professionals, financiers, utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and developers, and will feature an exceptional panel of presenters who will discuss the commercial opportunities as well as challenges in wind development.

“Stakeholders of successful wind projects can attest to the significant resources needed to go from bare land to a completed project,” said Dan Yarano, Chair of Fredrikson’s Renewable Energy Practice. “The conference is an excellent opportunity for small developers and landowners to meet well-capitalized developers to discuss joint ventures and other relationships that can help bring development projects to commercial operation. This may even involve competitors aligning resources to complete developments.”

The cost per registrant is $150 until February 8 and $200 thereafter; registration fees include the full-day conference, materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and a reception. The conference will take place at the Holiday Inn City Center located at 100 West 8th St., Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Full conference details and registration can be found at http://www.fredlaw.com/events/windconf2010.html.
