Mentor Program

Mentor Program

Fredrikson & Byron’s Mentor Program strives to enhance job satisfaction and professional development for every single attorney. Initially, the Mentor Program focused on first- and second-year associates—but as interest grew, so did the program. Now with more than 60 participants, the program has expanded beyond the team contacts to include large group activities such as happy hours, theatre events, luncheon programs and panel discussions that give attorneys the opportunity to have their questions answered and to learn strategies for achieving their personal goals.

The program is comprised of 10 mentor pairs and 10 mentor teams, each consisting of partners, senior associates and new lawyers. The program works to introduce our new lawyers to a wide array of colleagues sooner than later as well as helps more senior lawyers deepen their professional relationships across the firm. In addition, the Mentor Program provides a great opportunity for attorneys at all levels to get to know their colleagues from Fredrikson’s other practice areas, developing a wide-ranging set of professional contacts and interdisciplinary skills.

The teams meet frequently throughout the mentoring program term—over meals, coffee, recreational activities or other options—and all communications between the teams are governed by a code of confidentiality to encourage frank, spirited discussions about any topic of interest. These meetings allow the firm’s lawyers to learn more about firm financial topics, the shareholder process, development of client relationships, career goals, the evolution of the practice of law, new challenges in the practice, work-family balance and any number of topics on which the Fredrikson mentor can offer their first-hand experience.
