Hosted By:     Trade Secrets, Data Privacy & Security

On May 17, 2016, Fredrikson’s Teresa M. Thompson and Sten-Erik Hoidal of Fredrikson’s Trade Secrets Group hosted a panel including FBI Special Agent Shena Crowe, Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Rank and Media Consultant Jon Austin on best practices for responding to a loss of sensitive company information, whether caused by a data breach or a departing employee. The rapid fire question and answer presentation provided attendees with practical advice to aid in investigations, prosecutions and corporate public relations responses. The panel addressed attendees hypotheticals and questions such as:

  • You just discovered that your systems have been breached – what are the first five things you need to do?
  • You uncover a key employee took confidential, trade secret information on a flash drive before leaving to work for a competitor – what steps do you need to take right now?
  • After suffering any kind of data breach or theft – who do you need to have on your speed dial to help investigate, respond and react and why?
  • How can your company be a good corporate citizen in dealing with the public and the government investigators?
