Global Supply Chain Trends and Developments: Asia and Latin America
On June 18, 2019, our International Group hosted a seminar to discuss the health of U.S. manufacturing and sourcing in Asia and Latin America and recent country-specific trends, going country by country through the latest developments. We assessed the impact of the U.S.-China trade conflict on supply chains, including what companies can and are doing to manage the related risks. Countries surveyed included China, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Dominican Republic, among others.
We also covered the implications and effects of U.S. and Chinese tariffs and provided information about various tax and structuring issues relating to international supply chains. This included the impact and benefits of tax treaties, some thoughts on how to protect yourself when no tax treaty applies, the potential applicability of transfer pricing rules, the benefits and detriments of tax gross-ups and various documentation issues.
