Fredrikson & Byron’s Bismarck office focuses primarily on representing clients in the energy industry. As a leading crude oil producer and containing an abundance of other natural resources, North Dakota has a strong presence within the energy industry. From its central location within the state and its close proximity to the Williston Basin, the Bismarck office provides our clients with immediate access to important connections and developments.
Attorneys in the Bismarck office represent electric utilities, independent power producers, gas and oil pipeline companies, oil and gas exploration companies, wind developers, ethanol and biodiesel producers, salt water disposal operators, services companies, and other participants in the energy sector. Our clients rely on our substantial experience in managing the development, financing, acquisition, and divestiture of large energy assets. Additionally, we represent clients in many other industries and areas, including, but not limited to, bank and finance, eminent domain, business formation and reorganization, bankruptcy, and employment.
Lawrence Bender heads the Bismarck office. Lawrence has deep roots in his home state of North Dakota and the energy industry, and he has practiced exclusively in the oil and gas industry throughout his career. He is the Vice-Chair of the North Dakota Petroleum Council, and he has served as Assistant Attorney General of the State of North Dakota and as Counsel for the North Dakota Industrial Commission, Oil & Gas Division, and the North Dakota Board of University & School Lands. This experience has given him first-hand knowledge of the regulation of oil and gas companies in the state.
