Fredrikson shareholder Tracy L. Deutmeyer has been sworn in as a member of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC) for a three-year term through December 1, 2023.

As a committee member, Deutmeyer will advise the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and the Director of the USPTO on matters relating to the policies, goals, performance, budget and user fees of the trademark operation.

“Tracy is a skilled trademark attorney. Her expertise and global experience make her a strong choice for this role,” said Lora Friedemann, Fredrikson’s Intellectual Property Group chair.

Deutmeyer has practiced trademark and copyright law for more than 18 years. She advises clients on all areas of U.S. trademark and copyright law, including the availability, prosecution, maintenance, acquisition and enforcement of rights. She regularly represents parties before the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2002 and her B.A. from Iowa State University in 1998.

Deutmeyer has previously served as Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law’s (ABA-IPL) USPTO Operations Relating to Trademarks Committee, a member of the ABA-IPL’s CLE Board and chair of the committee which organizes ABA-IPL Trademark Day at the USPTO.
