Fredrikson & Byron Expands Iowa Office
Fredrikson & Byron P.A. has continued its growth in the Midwest by expanding its Des Moines, Iowa office with three attorneys. Joining the firm are J. Marc Ward, a corporate, finance and M&A attorney, and Bridget R. Penick, an employment and labor, litigation and immigration attorney. Both are Iowa natives and have practiced successfully in the Des Moines area for many years. Brant M. Leonard joins the firm as an associate.

J. Marc Ward has extensive experience in the financial services industry working on corporate matters, including bank M&A and corporate governance. He also represents clients in the agricultural, retail, manufacturing and technology industries. Ward chaired the committee that wrote the original Iowa LLC law in 1992 and chaired the committee that wrote the new Iowa LLC law in 2009. He has chaired the Business Law Section of the Iowa Bar Association since 2011 and has received external recognition for his work from a variety of publications, including inclusion in the 2009-2013 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a “Leading Individual” in the area of Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions in the state of Iowa.
Bridget R. Penick is a leading litigator whose practice focuses on employment law. She represents employers of all sizes, both in state and federal courts as well as before administrative agencies. In addition, Penick counsels employers in human resources policies and procedures, employment discrimination, FMLA, ADA, wage & hour, NLRA issues and union organization. She also assists employers with employment-related immigration issues. She is active in the local and national legal community, and her work as an employment, litigation, and immigration attorney has been recognized by a variety of awards and honors, including in the 2008-2013 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a “Leading Individual” in the area of Labor & employment in the state of Iowa and in the 2010-2013 editions as a “Leading Individual” in the area of Immigration in the state of Iowa.
Brant M. Leonard’s practice focuses on corporate and employment law as well as general litigation. He regularly represents clients in a wide variety of legal areas. His corporate practice includes expertise in areas such as business formation, contracts and agreements, corporate governance and M&A. Leonard’s employment law practice includes assisting clients with compliance with employment laws and best practices and representing clients in litigation involving employment-related claims.
