The Fredrikson & Byron Foundation’s 22nd annual Minority Scholarship was awarded to Rachel S. Kwon and Hanya “Rena” Liu. Strengthening the firm’s commitment to supporting diversity in the legal community, this year, the Foundation granted two $15,000 scholarships.

Kwon is currently enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia. She expects to earn her J.D. in May 2016, and earned a B.A. in Arts & Sciences, Government and East Asian Studies from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in May 2013.

Liu is currently enrolled at the University of Virginia School Of Law in Charlottesville and expects to receive her J.D. in May 2016. She earned a B.A. in Political Science and Communications Studies from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in May 2013.

“Diversity is an integral part of the legal community, which is why the Fredrikson & Byron Foundation continues to offer the scholarship to first year minority law students,” said Todd Wind, president of Fredrikson’s charitable foundation.

The scholarship program is part of the Fredrikson & Byron Foundation’s commitment to promoting diversity amongst incoming law professionals. The purpose of the program is to encourage them to join and excel in the private practice of law within larger corporate law firms in the Upper Midwest. The scholarships are awarded based on law school performance, professional references, work and other activities, writing samples and personal interviews. First year law students are encouraged to visit our Diversity page for more information and to apply. Questions can be directed to Greta Larson at glarson@fredlaw.com.
