Attorney Robert Oberlies Named Co-Chair of Fredrikson & Byron’s China Practice Group

Fredrikson & Byron announced that Robert M. Oberlies has been named co-chair of the firm’s China Practice. In this role, he will work closely with co-chair Jun “Sharon” Shi. The China Practice Group provides a broad range of services to foreign multinational corporations and Chinese companies in their business ventures in and out of China.

Oberlies is a recognized authority on leading complex international transactions for global companies, including advising on several of the largest M&A deals between North America and China. Oberlies has helped clients on their most sensitive and strategic projects across the Americas and Asia, assisting multinational companies in successfully growing their business operations in Asia and private equity firms in completing key acquisitions of a global nature. In China, where he practiced law for more than seven years, he counseled clients across a broad range of industry sectors, including life sciences, health care, energy, agribusiness, consumer products, retail and logistics. He has advised North American and European clients on their strategic M&A and joint ventures in the US and abroad, market entry and exit strategies, corporate governance, anti-monopoly and national security review, labor and collective bargaining laws, customs compliance and risk management. He has extensive experience counseling clients on anti-corruption and related compliance issues, conducting internal investigations and helping to design and implement effective compliance programs. Oberlies received his law degree from Northwestern and a bachelor’s degree in history from Holy Cross College.
