Fredrikson & Byron shareholder F. John Williams III has recently been offered membership as a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (the College) by its Board of Regents. Fellows are chosen for their outstanding reputation, exceptional skill and substantial contributions to the field.

The College is an organization of peer-elected lawyers and law professors who are experienced and skilled in the preparation of wills and trusts, probate and trust administration, transfer and income taxation, charitable planning and asset protection. Lawyers must have at least 10 years of active practice experience in the field in order to qualify for membership.

Williams has wanted to become a Fellow of the College since he started working in estate planning 12 years ago, he told the College. “Now, having the opportunity to accomplish that goal is an amazing feeling. I appreciate the membership so much,” Williams said.

Williams uses his educational background, experiences working with families and work ethic learned on his family’s farm to assist clients with estate planning, business succession, and probate and trust administration. He specializes in issues pertaining to family business succession and tax issues. Williams and his team provide legal services to business owners, farmers, ranchers, mineral owners, executives and professionals.

Williams joins the College alongside Fredrikson & Byron Fargo-based attorney William L. Guy III and Minneapolis-based attorneys William J. Brody, Bronwen L. Cound, David B. Gollin, Mark W. Greiner, Christopher B. Hunt, Dale J. Schoonover, Cameron R. Seybolt and Karen Sandler Steinert.
