Entertainment Attorney Jacob Abdo to Serve as GRAMMY® Awards ELI Writing Competition Judge

Abdo will serve as an attorney grader for the January 2021 GRAMMY® Awards Entertainment Law Initiative (ELI) writing contest. For the past 22 years, ELI has held a legal writing competition that offers the nation’s top law students the chance to win up to $10,000 in tuition-based scholarships.

The ELI Writing Competition challenges students to identify, research and write an essay outlining a proposed solution on a compelling legal issue confronting the music industry. Abdo will serve on the nationwide panel of music law professionals who will judge the papers in a blind process to select a winner and two runners-up.

Abdo is a transactional attorney who works with businesses and creative professionals to protect and commercialize their valuable intellectual property. He has expertise in trademark and copyright prosecution, maintenance, enforcement and licensing agreements. Abdo also advises on copyright fair use, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Music Modernization Act. Prior to law school, he was a full-time performing, writing and recording musician.
