Fredrikson & Byron attorneys John M. Koneck, Brian S. McCool, Alyssa M. Troje and Mark W. Honorees were selected by Minnesota Lawyer’s editorial team who conducted interviews with respected professionals around the state of Minnesota.

Koneck handles both complex real estate transactions, including sales, financings and leases, and complex real estate disputes and litigation, including contract disputes, foreclosures, workouts and bankruptcy. Koneck has represented clients in transactions across the United States, has tried cases in various state and federal courts, and has represented clients in arbitrations. He has handled real estate transactions and disputes involving commercial, industrial, and multi-family sales and acquisitions, brokerage agreements, commercial lease, tax and business planning, and construction and permanent real estate financing. He also has substantial experience in bankruptcy and debtor/creditor law and has represented borrowers and lenders in real estate workouts, and debtors and secured parties in real estate bankruptcy cases.

McCool, chair of Fredrikson & Byron’s Real Estate Group, is an experienced real estate attorney with a multi-faceted practice, focusing particularly on representing parties in complex land use and development matters, real estate transactions, and disputes involving real property. McCool has significant experience partnering with landowners, developers and builders to help them understand and navigate through the various steps that must be taken to make a development project a reality. McCool is an experienced transactional attorney that represents clients in the acquisition, disposition, joint-venture and debt financing, entitlement, construction, and leasing of multi-family, commercial and industrial properties. McCool also has substantial experience in representing his clients in a wide range of real estate-related disputes, including landlord-tenant disputes, construction claims, mechanic’s lien issues, mortgage foreclosure actions, workouts, and zoning disputes.

Troje works closely with clients to develop tailored, practical solutions to their real estate and business legal needs. She has experience managing all areas of real estate transactions, including lease drafting and negotiations for both landlords and tenants, acquisitions and sales, financing, development, construction and litigation. A varied background in commercial litigation, corporate transactions, bankruptcy and estate planning allows Troje to apply broad experience to the wide variety of challenges that clients face. Troje is a Minnesota State Bar Association Certified Real Property Law Specialist which requires a rigorous approval process, including passing an examination on a broad variety of real estate topics, peer review and documented experience.

Vyvyan is a litigator, known for winning important cases for his clients in areas like commercial landlord-tenant disputes, complex foreclosures, construction disputes, oil and gas litigation, and significant boundary and easement disputes. Although Vyvyan is a litigator and focuses his practice on real estate disputes, he also has experience handling real estate transactions, which makes him a more effective litigator. Vyvyan has tried cases for both plaintiffs and defendants in states across the Upper Midwest. Vyvyan also mediates real estate-related matters, including residential and commercial construction disputes, commercial landlord-tenant matters and boundary and easement disputes.
