Mike assists clients in the energy and natural resources industry on permitting, environmental and land rights matters. He also assists commercial and industrial clients with environmental transactional and regulatory matters.
In his energy practice, Mike has significant experience representing clients in the upstream oil and gas industry. He has prepared numerous drilling and division order title opinions and transactional real estate documents for oil and gas exploration and production companies, primarily in North Dakota’s Bakken formation. Mike’s permitting and land rights experience includes federal, state and local permitting, zoning and easement review for pipelines and renewable energy facilities.
In his environmental practice, Mike draws upon his prior environmental consulting experience to assist our mergers and acquisitions and real estate teams with due diligence, risk assessment, allocation of liability, and the negotiation of environmental provisions in purchase agreements
Prior to joining Fredrikson & Byron, Mike worked at an energy and environmental consulting firm focusing on environmental review, environmental permitting, and agency consultations for the construction and operation of oil and gas transmission pipelines and natural gas distribution systems. Mike gained valuable industry experience while working in Houston at the headquarters of a natural gas transmission pipeline company.
Prepared drilling and division order title opinions in North Dakota’s Bakken field with complex mineral and leasehold chains of title and ownership, including the Missouri River, abandoned townsites, railroads, metes and bounds tracts, federal exploratory units and secondary recovery units.
Advised pipeline, wind and solar energy clients on permitting, zoning and land rights matters.
Advised wind and solar energy companies on permitting, environmental and land matters related to acquisitions, divestitures and project financing.
Drafted and negotiated environmental provisions in purchase agreements and managed environmental due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Fredrikson & Byron, as an environmental consultant, assisted oil and natural gas transmission pipelines and natural gas utilities with federal, state and local environmental permitting and review.
