Since our inception more than 75 years ago, Fredrikson has grown to 400+ attorneys practicing in 50+ specialized areas from ten global offices. We are based in the Midwest, but our reach extends worldwide. We represent clients across diverse sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, financial services, energy, retail, manufacturing, agriculture, consumer products and technology.
Our client portfolio includes organizations of all sizes and structures—from startups to multinational publicly traded companies, as well as financial institutions, municipalities, professional corporations, nonprofits, trade associations, partnerships and individuals. With particular strength in middle market transactions, advice and advocacy, we serve businesses at every stage of growth while maintaining a global perspective.
The Fredrikson Difference
Strategic Expertise
We act as our clients’ strategic business and legal advisor, viewing risks and legal issues from the C-suite perspective. We offer the right combination of big-firm capabilities with midmarket value, responsiveness and collaboration.
Service Approach
We are dedicated to understanding our clients, their business objectives and the industry-specific legal issues they face. Our goal is to harness this in-depth knowledge in the service of innovative legal solutions that help our clients succeed.
Practical Solutions
Our proactive, problem-solving mindset enables us to anticipate and address problems before they arise. We do not merely present clients with a menu of available legal options but recommend the course of action that supports their business objectives. We give advice in the way that works for our clients: no long memos to wade through; bullet points, not briefs.
Client Focused
We treat a client’s business as if it were our own. One size fits one: we customize our approach to meet every client’s needs and preferences.
Operational Excellence and Innovation
At Fredrikson, we pride ourselves on delivering legal services that are efficient, innovative and aligned with our clients’ needs. Our multidisciplinary Legal Operations department brings together project management, process improvement, knowledge management and technology to drive operational excellence that translates into better outcomes, greater transparency and improved value for our clients.
Our legal operations function supports the firm in five key areas:
- Innovation & Generative AI: We integrate generative AI and emerging technologies strategically, ethically and thoughtfully to enhance efficiency and deliver smarter solutions.
- Practice Management: Through structured planning and goal setting, we help practice groups define and pursue objectives that reflect both the firm’s strategy and what matters most to our clients.
- Research & Knowledge Management: We leverage advanced research capabilities, competitive intelligence and legal project management tools to deliver innovative, data-informed solutions that address complex client challenges.
- Attorney Development: Our comprehensive approach to attorney development ensures clients benefit from highly skilled, well-supported attorneys—enhancing consistency, responsiveness and quality at every stage of engagement.
- Legal Support: Through professional management of legal administrative assistants, paralegals and other legal staff, we provide seamless support that maintains high service standards, enables effective collaboration and supports timely delivery of client work.
With a focus on operational excellence and innovation, our Legal Operations department ensures that clients experience an effective and client-focused approach to legal service delivery.
Voice of the Client
Fredrikson’s client feedback program includes formal interviews, conducted by the firm’s president or another member of our executive committee and our chief marketing officer. The team serving the client receives the feedback immediately and develops a plan to amplify what is going well and address any areas for improvement. We aggregate the feedback we receive across all our client interviews and share trends and service issues – positive and constructive – that we have identified so that the entire firm can benefit and take steps to improve our overall service to clients.
Our lawyers train annually on how to conduct an effective informal client service visit and are encouraged to include site visits and feedback check-ins with their primary contacts at their client’s location. Many of our lawyers routinely conduct end-of-the-matter surveys, discussions or debriefs.
Our objective is to see continual improvement, which will be measured, reported to firm management and addressed as needed.
