Fredrikson & Byron Shareholder Karen G. Schanfield has been appointed to the Jewish Metropolitan Council. The council was created by the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul to help achieve greater collaboration and cooperation in the Jewish community in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota.

Schanfield was named among eight council members, who were chosen from 27 candidates. The council members were selected because they each bring a passion for the community, proven leadership across multiple Jewish communal organizations and an interest in building bridges between organizations to enhance Jewish life, reported the federations. The council members were chosen by a search committee that included the federations’ presidents, CEOs and planning directors, and the council co-chairs.

The Jewish Metropolitan Council has been tasked with providing feedback and high-level strategic vision on collaboration and integration between the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul.

Schanfield advises and represents employers on a broad range of workplace matters. Her expertise includes leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, harassment, discrimination, disability and religious accommodation, retaliation, non-compete agreements, executive agreements and compensation, whistleblower claims, down-sizing and union matters. Her clients include publicly traded companies, non-profit organizations, government entities and executives. Schanfield serves as national labor and employment counsel for companies with operations in several states.

Schanfield and Fredrikson & Bryon shareholder Robert D. Aronson were also awarded the 2017 Sidney Barrows Lifetime Commitment Award by the Twin Cities Cardozo Society. Schanfield has also served on the boards of directors for Jewish Family Service, the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul and the St. Paul Jewish Community Center, as well as the chair of the Partnership 2000 Committee for the United Jewish Fund and Council.
