Furthering its commitment to advancing inclusion, equity and diversity in the firm and legal industry, Fredrikson & Byron introduced a creditable hours policy for time spent engaging in education and dialogue relating to inclusion and diversity.
“We are directly encouraging participation in education and dialogue in events that promote inclusion and diversity in the legal industry and our community,” said Fredrikson president John Koneck. “This policy incentivizes our team to become better for our colleagues and our clients.”
The new policy went into effect on January 1, 2021, and it captures hours in addition to billable time already offered for pro bono work, community presence, recruiting, and inclusion and diversity committee member time. Eligible efforts include:
- Attendance at internal designated events hosted by the firm’s Inclusion & Diversity Team
- Attendance at live external programs and sponsored community events (both CLE and non-CLE) that promote inclusion and diversity
- External committee work or leadership relating to inclusion and diversity not already covered by the Inclusion & Diversity Committee Budget and/or Community Presence time
- Other activities proposed by attorneys and approved by the firm’s Inclusion & Diversity Staff
