Children’s Law Center of Minnesota Honors Fredrikson & Byron with Distinguished Service Award

December 2, 2019

Fredrikson & Byron has been awarded the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from The Children’s Law Center of Minnesota (CLC), an organization that promotes the rights and interests of Minnesota’s children in the judicial, child welfare, health care and education systems.

The Children’s Law Center of Minnesota provides free legal advocacy for foster care youth in Minnesota. CLC advocates for foster children through systemic reform and provides free legal representation services to foster children. The organization also trains volunteer attorneys to represent foster children in court. At any given time, CLC is providing representation for over 580-660 foster children. It is the only organization in Minnesota that provides legal representation for foster children. Currently, more than a dozen Fredrikson lawyers represent children in foster care.

The annual Distinguished Service Award is awarded to one law firm or corporation whose work on behalf of CLC’s clients exemplifies the commitment and dedication to pro bono representation that is the foundation of CLC’s mission. Fredrikson accepted the award in Minneapolis on November 19 at CLC’s 24th annual Celebration of Champions.

Over the years, attorneys from Fredrikson have partnered with CLC to provide legal representation to the growing number of child clients. The firm also has a long history of providing CLC with Amicus and appellate assistance and has continuously provided CLC with a variety of support since the organization’s inception, including assisting CLC with its incorporation.

In recent years, Fredrikson has helped CLC navigate legislative changes to ensure legal representation for foster care youth throughout Minnesota, as well as to secure new government funding to support CLC’s work.
