Ryan P. Meger

Ryan works with technology-driven companies on acquiring patent rights that enhance the value of their innovations by aligning intellectual property strategies with broader business objectives, minimizing infringement risk and enabling informed decisions around product development, investment and competitive positioning.

Ryan counsels clients on a broad range of patent matters, with a focus on U.S. and international patent acquisition and portfolio management where he leverages his understanding of his clients’ business objectives to secure patent rights that provide competitive value in relevant markets.

He regularly performs detailed freedom-to-operate analysis, helping clients navigate potential infringement risks during product development and identify practical paths forward.

Ryan advises clients on a broad spectrum of patent matters with technical experience spanning a wide range of industries and innovations. He has worked extensively with medical devices, optics and photonics, automotive and vehicular systems, consumer products, thermodynamics, software, and mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.

Patent Acquisition

• Drafted and prosecuted U.S. patent applications within numerous technical areas, including medical devices, optics and photonics, automotive and vehicular systems, consumer products, thermodynamics, software, and mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
• Identified and prosecuted strategic continuation patent applications to target competitor products.

Freedom to Operate Analysis

• Conducted search and analysis of relevant competitor patents in view of clients’ products.
• Worked with clients to design products that reduce infringement risk without sacrificing design performance.
• Identified strong noninfringement and invalidity positions for competitor patents allowing clients to move forward with new products from a position of strength.
