Fredrikson attorneys Grant Fairbairn, Thomas Hipkins, Ann Ladd, Paul LaVanway, Barbara Marchevsky, Kurt Niederluecke, Charles Segelbaum, Adam Steinert and David West are featured in the 2025 edition of the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals. The IAM Patent 1000 is a unique guide that identifies the top patent professionals in key jurisdictions around the globe.

The IAM Patent 1000 analysis states that Fredrikson, “excelling in all areas, distinguishes itself as a leading provider of patent services. The firm's attorneys leverage their collective business acumen to drive client success in various markets.”

Continuing in its evaluation of Fredrikson, the IAM Patent 1000 provides commentary on the team members’ strengths and areas of expertise:

Practicing nationally, Fairbairn, Fredrikson’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group chair and co-chair of the Anti-Counterfeiting Practice Group, is acknowledged as playing “a crucial role in maximizing the value of his patrons’ intellectual property.”

Hipkins, chair of the firm’s Patents Group, “is a respectful and very intelligent patent prosecutor, and has an extremely good rapport with business teams. His competitive approach to intellectual property provides a comprehensive perspective on clients' core business objectives.”

LaVanway is regarded as “a key adviser in Fredrikson’s prosecuting team, delivering expert insights on opinions and transactional strategies.”

Marchevsky is recognized as “a standout among the team’s top litigators, specializ[ing] in enforcing IP rights. She supports her patrons through every stage, from mediation to trial, while also maintaining an active pro bono practice.”

Another name to note, Niederluecke, is recently leading a case for Medtronic with Marchevsky’s assistance. “He is a formidable advocate, leveraging his persuasive skills in court to secure victories for the medical products company.”

West, Ladd and Segelbaum are central figures known to “skillfully develop, protect and commercialize their patrons’ assets.” West and Ladd are “renowned for their exceptional negotiation skills,” while Segelbaum, chair of the firm’s IP Due Diligence Group, “masters all aspects of transactional and prosecution work.”

Making his debut and joining his colleagues in the IAM Patent 1000 guide, Steinert is identified as an attorney who “defends clients across diverse sectors and technologies. His innovative approach has enabled him to co-lead with Niederluecke for Becton, Dickinson and Company,” and among other wins, successfully cancel three asserted competitor patents before the PTAB.

IAM is proud to present its 14th edition of IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals, which is commonly regarded as the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking to identify world-class, private practice patent expertise, as well as leading expert witnesses in the U.S. As with previous editions, to arrive at the 2025 rankings, IAM undertook an exhaustive qualitative research project to identify outstanding firms and individuals across multiple jurisdictions. Over five months, IAM conducted in the region of 1,800 interviews with numerous attorneys at law, patent attorneys and in-house counsel to gather market intelligence on the leading players in the field. Only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent matters feature in the IAM Patent 1000.
