Overview
Mac brings experience as United States Attorney for the District of North Dakota and a history of litigating complex class action, civil rights and administrative law cases to his work on behalf of clients facing business disputes and compliance issues.
Mac has successfully represented clients in numerous civil actions against the federal government and Fortune 500 companies. As United States Attorney, he oversaw parallel civil and criminal proceedings and personally represented the United States at trial and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He has civil jury trial experience in North Dakota and Minnesota state courts and has represented clients on appeal to the North Dakota Supreme Court and Minnesota Supreme Court.
While working as an attorney in private practice, Mac also represented Grand Forks’ District 42 in the North Dakota Senate from 2008 to 2016. His passion for service, public policy and solving complex problems helps him effectively represent clients’ best interests and deliver results.

United States Attorney
- Presidentially appointed and U.S. Senate-confirmed United States Attorney.
- Chief federal law enforcement officer for the District of North Dakota.
- Supervised 27 Assistant United States Attorneys and over 30 staff in the Office’s Criminal and Civil Divisions.
- Member of the Native American Issues and Violent Crime Subcommittees of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee.
- Oversaw annual “Savanna’s Act” meetings with tribal leadership on North Dakota’s four major reservations.
- Second chair in murder / arson trial (U.S. v. Belgarde).
- Briefed and argued interstate kidnapping and witness tampering case on appeal before the Eighth Circuit (U.S. v. Abdullahi).
- Class co-counsel in class action brought by investors who successfully sought recovery of funds invested in fraudulently-issued securities, leading to over $5 million in gross recovery for the plaintiffs and class.
- Lead class counsel in wage and hour class action brought on behalf of agricultural guestworkers, resulting in class action certification.
- Successful representation of an employee alleging violations of the Family Medical Leave Act, ERISA and the ADA against a Fortune 500 company.
