Overview
Schuyler is a seasoned attorney whose multidisciplinary background and wide-ranging experience inform a legal practice that is both strategic and client-centered. At Fredrikson, Schuyler represents creditors, including banks, in bankruptcy proceedings and creditor rights matters. He also assists clients with a variety of general commercial litigation and transactional matters.
Known for his analytical and strategic thinking, Schuyler excels at distilling complex legal and financial problems into actionable solutions. His combined legal and academic training—particularly in peace and conflict studies—gives him a thoughtful and well-rounded perspective, especially when advising clients facing stressful or uncertain situations.
Whether representing clients in bankruptcy, creditor rights matters or commercial disputes, Schuyler brings a practical, outcome-driven approach. He works closely with clients to understand their goals and delivers advice that is principled and pragmatic. His experience across firm settings, courtrooms and academic forums allows him to approach each matter with both depth and versatility.
Prior to joining Fredrikson, Schuyler began his career at a general practice firm, where he gained valuable courtroom experience representing clients in high-stakes matters. Schuyler also held two judicial clerkships. As a Law Clerk for the Iowa Fifth District Court, he drafted clear thorough rulings across a range of civil and criminal matters. He later served as a law clerk the Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Minnesota, where he conducted legal research, analyzed motions and briefs, and provided detailed briefings on complex bankruptcy issues.
Outside of legal practice, Schuyler’s work as a speaker and researcher reflects his belief in the broader role law can play in promoting justice and social responsibility. He has presented on topics such as consumer finance, urban infrastructure and peacemaking at international conferences. His writing has appeared in the Journal of Corporation Law and anthologies, covering subjects ranging from Chapter 12 Bankruptcy law to the social impact of surveillance technologies in social media.
